During Good News...
Evan: I ate Lucky Charms for breakfast.
Miss Post: You know I love Lucky Charms. I'm not drinking or eating milk foods right now, though, so I haven't had them in awhile.
Cayden: Can you eat cheesecake? Will you eat cheesecake if I bring you some?
Miss Post: Cayden, if you bring me cheesecake, I will have some.
A few days later, on Xavier's birthday...
Miss Post: Did you all love those cupcakes Xavier brought for his birthday?
Maddie: You had one?
Miss Post: Mmm-hmm. It was delicious.
Maddie: I thought you were hibernating from that stuff!!

Miss Maddie
With the new year upon us, it is again time to turn our attention toward some delightful first grade antics. Maddie is my friend with a huge imagination, an adorable mess of curly hair, and a sizeable creative streak, the combination of which often causes random amusement and sometimes hilarity.
Monday, Maddie's first day as Top Banana (Student of the Week)...
Miss Post: Maddie, are you ready to share your pictures with us for your Top Banana time?
Maddie: [excitedly shares pictures...returns to rug]
Miss Post: Thanks, Maddie! Okay, now I'd like you all to start thinking about...yes, Maddie?
Maddie: Am I going to have my Top Banana time now?
Miss Post: Maddie, you just had your Top Banana time!
Maddie: [pause] Oh, yeah...
--------------
Thursday, Maddie's half birthday...
Miss Post: Maddie, what is that bundle you're holding?
Maddie: It's a bunch of cards my friends made me for my half birthday! There are so many, like two...or 50!!
--------------
Wednesday, during a math lesson...
Miss Post: We've been talking about making halves. I have some dimes and nickels on this plate. Who can tell me how many I need to put on the other plate in order to make half? Maddie?
Maddie: [genuinely] Hot dogs?
*Really?* I love this girl.

Festivities
Today I decided to throw the schedule out the window and decorate the classroom instead. All the kids made at least one ornament and I hung them from clothespins on the fishline in the classroom. They look so cute! The room was a huge disaster, but all the first graders helped to clean it up and even though it took an hour longer than I thought it would, we turned on the Christmas music and they had a blast. They are PUMPED for the holidays...and I am, too!

Here and Now
On Thursday, we had the holiday concert. I got upset and told my friend, another teacher, how much I want my own kids. She was confused; I have 27.
On Friday, I told my kids how much I love them. I started to cry and they thought it was funny, in a good way. I think that I will never have another class as wonderful as this one.

Miss Post: That's cool. Do you know him?
Amulya: Yeah.
Miss Post: How do you know him?
Amulya: He's my doctor!
